New continuing rehabilitation service to open in Scholes, Leeds

Following demand from commissioners and other stakeholders for a
continuing rehabilitation service in Leeds, the BIRT has announced
it will be opening a 10 bed continuing rehabilitation service in
September 2012. The service will provide a further link in
the whole pathway of care for service users in the Yorkshire
region.
BIRT has purchased a building in Scholes, near Leeds, which,
after reconfiguration and renovation, will open in September
2012. Scholes, located only 5 miles from Leeds city centre,
has several amenities including shops, a library, GP and dental
surgeries. Scholes has a direct public transport route to
Seacroft and Bramley and Leeds city centre, enabling service users
to access a greater range of educational, vocational and leisure
facilities.
It is anticipated that commissioners and referrers will perceive
the proposed service as a cost effective placement for service
users who require higher levels of support from a specialist
provider.
Lynn Turley, Service Director for BIRT, said "We are delighted
to be able to provide this long-awaited service in the Leeds and
surrounding area, and look forward to welcoming service users,
their families and professionals working with them to this new
development."
Design work and initial structural investigations have now been
completed and drawings have been submitted to the local Building
Inspector for approval. Tenders will be invited shortly for the
necessary building works and completion is anticipated for
September 2012.
