The Disabilities Trust places huge significance on our service users being able to form their own opinions, wishes and independence across all areas of their lives. This included voting for their preferred candidate and political party in the General Election held on May 7th2015.

To ensure they were fully supported and involved in the process the Trust provided each of our services with a General Election pack that included ‘how to vote,’ and full and easy-read manifestos that concluded the main assurances from each party.

Our brain injury service in Aylesbury, Kent House gathered as many service users as possible and complete with a flip chart held a debate on the Party promises and discussed what policies might mean for the individuals gathered in the room and their family and friends.

Afterwards, everyone voted and one service user set off to deliver the votes to the local polling station. Anna Batho, Assistant Psychologist at Kent House said last night, “the polling station said they were grateful we were involved and now everyone is gathered around the television and watching the results come in.”
