On August 2nd, The Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE, accompanied by Mr Ronald Muirhead, visited the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) centre at Redford Court in Liverpool.

They met with Ann Buckler, (Director of BIRT) Barry Price (Service Manager of Redford Court) and Michael Boardman (Service User and Family Liaison Officer) for a tour of the centre, where they met and chatted with a number of service users.

Ann Buckler, Director of BIRT said “It was a great honour for us to be able to welcome The Lord-Lieutenant and Mr Muirhead. We are very proud of Redford Court and the rehabilitation support we provide there for people with acquired brain injury. Dame Lorna was very interested in chatting with service users and staff alike.”

They also visited the home of Michael Watkins who lives in one of Redford Court’s self catering flats adjacent to the main centre. During the visit Dame Lorna had an opportunity to learn about the effects of brain injury and the rehabilitation work undertaken at Redford Court. On the tour she was able to see the recently-refurbished gym and Redford Court’s sensory room. The Lord-Lieutenant and Mr Muirhead enjoyed a light lunch with staff before departing.

Following the visit, The Lord Lieutenant said: “I very much enjoyed my visit to Redford Court today. The work BIRT does here is invaluable and it was a pleasure to meet the staff and many of the service users. The stories I heard were inspirational. I would like to thank the staff for all they do and for a lovely and informative visit.”
