About Thomas Edward Mitton House

Thomas Edward Mitton House supports people to adapt to a range of cognitive, physical or emotional difficulties following a severe brain injury. Rehabilitation is based on a neuro-behavioural approach and focuses on enabling the people we support to function more independently and to participate in as many of their previous activities as possible whilst developing their lives with privacy, dignity and respect.

Facilities

In attractive landscaped gardens, Thomas Edward Mitton House offers comfortable ensuite accommodation for 16 people, with spacious and well-appointed communal areas for dining and relaxation.

Rehabilitation takes place in a modern, tranquil, and well-equipped environment, with a particular emphasis on assistive equipment. The people we support enjoy access to a wide range of therapeutic and recreational activities, including cooking, gardening, arts and crafts, and have the use of a dedicated games and music room

Our rehabilitation models

Our specialist rehabilitation is based on a neuro-behavioural approach and focuses on enabling people to function more independently and develop their lives as they choose. The multi-disciplinary team has specialist assessment and therapy rooms to aid individuals’ recovery.

The programme may include:

  • Educational and therapeutic sessions
  • Support for personal, social, and domestic skills
  • Guided leisure time
  • Behavioural management
  • Community access
  • Vocational support and training

The people we support are actively involved in reviewing their progress against agreed outcomes, and we promote the involvement of families in the rehabilitation process. Home leave is encouraged wherever possible.

Becoming more independent

In addition to the main centre, there is a two-bedroom transitional supported living home within its grounds where people can strengthen their skills before moving onto a more independent environment.

Access to the wider community forms an essential part of the rehabilitation journey. Thomas Edward Mitton House is ideally situated for social integration as it offers opportunities for education and work placements where appropriate. With easy access to the centre of Milton Keynes, it is near shops, local GP surgeries, hairdressers, restaurants, and leisure facilities.
