Congratulations to Orla Eves who – with the support of the team at York House – has lost close to five stone in the last 18 months.
Orla has a brain injury sustained during surgery to remove a tumor and has been at York House for a number of years, arriving when she was just 18. She has been working with staff at York House who have helped Orla to follow a healthy eating and exercise plan, supporting her to attend weekly Slimming World classes and designing a food and activity plan to work round Orla’s existing routine.
Cath Dudzinska , Orla’s lead key worker and therapy assistant explained: “We worked with Orla to set up a plan to help her stay motivated, with celebrations at weight loss milestones along the way. Her “treats” included a shopping trip and a pantomime visit. We have also been supporting Orla to make regular visits to the gym where she has moved on to using weights. We also support her with self-cater sessions twice a week, where Orla has learnt to make healthier food choices.”
Orla said today: “In March 2014 I weighed 18 st 12 lbs. I decided to make a change. With the support of my family and York House I have continued to maintain a healthier diet and lifestyle: on my visits to York city centre I used to catch the bus there and back – now I walk. The more weight I have lost, the more exercise I have been able to do and the better I feel. I am now just a few pounds off losing five stone!”
Nicky Plowman , Service Manager at York House said today: “Orla had previously had difficulty with controlling her weight due to her brain injury. The combination of a structured approach to her eating and exercise, support from the team at York House and Orla’s determination have achieved some brilliant results for Orla.”
Recently a healthier, happier Orla attended a family event in her native Ireland, where friends and family congratulated her on her weight loss success.
