We are looking to recruit support workers to join our committed staff team supporting clients living in 24-hour supported housing and in their own homes in different locations across England.

We are recruiting for support workers to work as part of a team supporting our service users with acquired brain injury living in their own home in the CO4 area of Colchester.
We are looking for people with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and who have the ability to use their own initiative and be flexible in their approach to work. Must be able to work weekends, evenings and sleepovers.

Job description
Reports to Community Support Manager.

Purpose
1. To enable the Client(s) to perform those basic functions of every day living which, by reason of disability, they are unable to perform without support.

2. To contribute towards the planning and implementation of a comprehensive programme of social, leisure and vocational activities based on the Client(s)’ assessed needs. To facilitate the development and practice of those skills necessary to enable the Client(s) to live within the community and experience a good quality of life within a range of living options.

Main tasks

1. Support With Physical Needs

1.1 To co-operate with the Client(s) in facilitating their personal/self-care and daily living requirements needs

1.2 To support the Client(s) in caring for and maintaining their own homes, clothing and other personal effects.

1.3 To develop a knowledge and understanding of the Client(s)’ needs and aspirations to enable them effectively to communicate their choices and intentions within a structured environment.

1.4 To facilitate the mobility of the Client(s) both within their home and within the community.

2. Support With Social, Leisure And Vocational Needs

2.1 To co-operate with others in enabling the Client(s) to achieve a purposeful life contributing to social, leisure and vocational activities and developing programmes to meet these needs.

2.2 To assist with the Client(s)’ activity programme by promoting the Client(s)’ personal interests, hobbies and skills.

2.3 To develop, under supervision and direction, an understanding of the personal and social care needs of the Client(s) and to identify any problem areas to the Community Support Manager.

3. Other Duties

3.1 To participate in the Client(s)’ ongoing assessment of needs.

3.2 To liaise closely with other colleagues and professionals from external organisations regarding individual assessment of need, monitoring and development.

3.3 To demonstrate a reasonable standard of personal care and professional conduct whilst working with the client.

3.4 To complete written records clearly and accurately.

3.5 To participate in, and contribute to, training programmes for self and other staff groups within BIRT.

3.6 To take responsibility for one or more aspects of a specialist function within the working environment, where appropriate, and in accordance with individual workers’ skills.

3.7 To maintain a high level of confidentiality in relation to the Client(s) and matters relating to the Trust.

3.8 To communicate effectively and within appropriate timescales with the Community Support Manager and colleagues within Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.

3.9 To follow Disabilities Trust policies and procedures at all times.

3.10 Any other reasonable duties falling within the role of support worker (Community Services) designated by the Community Support Manager.
