The Eyes Alight appeal raises money for men and women with brain injuries who use the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust's (BIRT) services and community houses.
The money raised will give those undergoing brain injury rehabilitation something to enjoy or look forward to as they go through the daunting and difficult process of brain injury rehabilitation.
Why the appeal was set up
The appeal was set up by Izzy Judd and her family. Izzy's brother, Rupert, lives in Kent House, having been seriously injured in a road accident in 1997.
"Eyes Alight is totally inspired by my brother Rupert who suffered a serious brain injury as a result of a car accident. Rupert's story is just one of so many stories about people who, sadly, are going through long term brain injury rehabilitation. After talking to other service users at Kent House, I learned that there were things that would make a big difference to their lives. For example, laptops to help them keep in touch with their family and friends, developing a sensory garden for everyone to enjoy and providing music therapy sessions which are both fun and an aid to rehabilitation. By supporting the Eyes Alight Appeal, together we can make brain injury rehabilitation a little bit brighter."

How the Appeal has helped so far
So far, through the money raised by the Eyes Alight Appeal, we have been able to achieve many things which have made our service users "Eyes Alight," including
- purchasing new IT equipment, such as ipads, Xbox Kinect and laptops for service users.
- supporting service users to go on extra special trips, for example, a show in London, a visit to their favourite football team and a meet and greet session with their favourite band.
- Funding Items to help service users pursue their passions, for example, a digital piano and art equipment.
- making improvements to communal gardens and other shared facilities
Going forward, we want to raise money to provide additional items that will help communication such as iPads, iPhones and smart TVs. We also promote fitness and many of those we support have said that they would like green gyms and Wiis with fitness additions and to continue with group music therapy.
