As an organisation The Disabilities Trust uses the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Disclosure Scotland service to help assess the suitability of applicants for positions of trust. The Trust complies fully with the DBS and Disclosure Scotland Codes of Practice regarding the correct handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure information. It also complies fully with its obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 and other relevant legislation pertaining to the safe handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of Disclosure information and has a written policy statement on these matters, which is available to those who wish to see it on the Trust's website and/or on request.

Policy Overview

The aim of this policy is to confirm The Disabilities Trust Group's approach towards employing people who have a criminal record.

The Trust is committed to equality of opportunity for all job applicants and aims to select people for employment on the basis of their individual skills, abilities, experience, knowledge and, where appropriate, qualifications and training. The Trust will therefore consider ex-offenders for employment on their individual merits.
