Welcome to Hollyrood

Located in Lindfield, West Sussex, Hollyrood is a residential and day centre providing services for people with autism, and is run through The Disabilities Trust's Autism services. Hollyrood provides support and accommodation for 25 adults, aged over 18, who have been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum, or have autistic tendencies. We also support individuals with behaviours that might challenge alternative services and those with epilepsy.

Staff are trained to help service users achieve their aspirations and enjoy a high quality of life, and we respect each person's right to individual choice, dignity, independence and fulfilment. Our commitment to innovative management practices ensures that Hollyrood delivers excellent services.

Governance

As well as being fully compliant with Care Quality Commission standards, our corporate Quality Assurance Department oversees a regular external inspection and ad-hoc visits set against the CQC's own quality outcomes. This ensures that standards are maintained and built upon regularly. The inspections and audits include seeking feedback from all stakeholders, including service users, families, and local authorities. Our quality report outcomes are also published annually.

Philosophy

Inspired by the potential of the people who use The Disabilities Trust's Autism services support people with autism to live independent and fulfilled lives. We offer individually tailored support to best meeting the individual needs of service users to achieve their full potential.

Our focus at Hollyrood is to highlight and further support 'ability' where there may be disability. We promote the individual's right to privacy, respect, choice and inclusion and encourage people to express their views and concerns through regular liaison with their families, carers and our multi disciplinary team.

Autism is a complex disability and no two people have the same needs. Our detailed assessment procedure is designed to determine the level of support needed by each individual.

We are committed to finding new ways of understanding the views of those who have communication difficulties and tailor our methods to best meet the needs of that person.

Facilities and environment

Set in beautiful landscaped grounds, Hollyrood comprises four houses and a flat on one site, and two four-bedroom community houses in nearby Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.

All rooms at the main service are for one person and many are en-suite and individually designed, with input from each individual to reflect their interests and needs. The centre has plenty of space for privacy and each house has its own kitchen and laundry.

Our person centred approach places service users at the heart of everything that we do. We recognise that people with autistic spectrum disorders often behave in ways which challenge traditional service provision. This is often a way of someone communicating frustration, anxiety, pain or needs. Our highly experienced therapeutic team is trained to manage challenging behaviour by using interventions and enabling service users to communicate their needs and feelings in a non-threatening environment.
