National charity the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) has offered to help NHS hospitals relieve bed blocking by highlighting the beds available in its centres across England and Wales.
The charity provides specialist rehabilitation services for people who have sustained a brain injury, for example through a car accident, assault or stroke and can carry out urgent assessments within 72 hours if appropriate.
Ann Buckler, Director of BIRT, said: “Some of the patients who need discharging to free up beds for acute cases may well have a brain injuryand require rehabilitation. We are happy to carry out assessments and we can fast track admissions if appropriate. We are currently contacting local hospitals to see how we can help.”
