This month the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) published their annual Outcome Report.

BIRT are one of the few neurorehabilitation providers in the UK to publish an annual report detailing statistics about their services. The report demonstrates the changes people may expect to see in service users during and following rehabilitation at BIRT’s services in relation to measurable scales such as care and supervision needs, mood, behaviour and participation in activities.

Top 5 facts from the 2015 report:

  • 236 service users admitted to BIRT services
  • 248 service users discharged
  • 5.3 months was the average length of stay
  • 76% of service users engaged in productive activity (ie: education, training, employment and recreational activities) on discharge
  • 61% of service users were independent or needing only overnight supervision on discharge
