Bristol Road is a specialist long-term brain injury residential care centre where we provide innovative rehabilitation and ongoing support to ensure life after brain injury can be well lived. Our home is situated within the beautiful Bournville Village Trust estate on the outskirts of Birmingham.

About Bristol Road

Bristol Road is a long-stay specialise brain injury centre, providing 24-hour care for people with an acquired brain injury and complex needs such as cognitive, physical and/or emotional difficulties, including physical and verbal aggression, impaired social functioning, and disinhibited behaviour.

Facilities 

We offer attractive and accessible accommodation for up to seven people within our main centre. We also have a separate one-bedroom transitional living apartment, helping people to move towards independent living in the community.

Bristol road also has a fully equipped rehabilitation kitchen to support people to regain their daily living skills, alongside two large comfortable communal lounges and an extensive activities room with a pool table.

Our rehabilitation models

Our specialist rehabilitation is based on a neuro-behavioural approach and focuses on enabling people to function more independently and develop their lives as they choose. The multi-disciplinary team at Bristol Road have specialist assessment and therapy rooms to support people’s recovery.

The programme may include:

  • Support for personal, social, and domestic skills
  • Guided leisure time
  • Behavioural management
  • Community access
  • Vocational support and training

The people we support are actively involved in reviewing their progress against agreed outcomes, and we promote the involvement of families in the rehabilitation process. Home leave is encouraged wherever possible.

Becoming more independent

There is a one-bedroom transitional supported living flat and access to three further supported living houses within Birmingham where people can strengthen their skills before moving onto a more independent environment.

Access to the wider community forms an essential part of the rehabilitation journey. Bristol Road’s proximity to shops and leisure facilities and easy access to Birmingham is ideal for community integration. These locations also offer opportunities for education, training, and work placements.

Who we support

Our brain injury rehabilitation services are for people who experience some / any of the following symptoms:

  • Cognitive problems including thinking, memory, problem-solving, learning, awareness, and perception
  • Physical impairments that affect mobility, posture, or dexterity
  • Physical and verbal aggression
  • Communication difficulties
  • Challenging behaviour
