Some fantastic news to bring you from Fen House is that Lisa Thompson, Activities Coordinator, was nominated for an Ely Hero Award this year, and was amongst three finalists for the category of ‘Caring Companion’. Lisa and Fen House staff attended the award ceremony at Ely Maltings to hear the winners announced.

In case there was any doubt, Lisa won the award for her outstanding care, compassion, dedication and for going above and beyond, looking after a service user who is currently receiving end of life care at Fen House. It was this service user who nominated her for the award.

She has enabled him to carry out all his end of life wishes, from going to Harry Potter Studios, to visiting his home area in London, bringing back precious memories before it was no longer possible. With family input and consent she has assisted him in organising his funeral arrangements, so he knew that all his affairs were in order.

Lisa is a valued member of the team who stops at nothing to ensure that not only this service user achieved his goals and wishes, but also goes above and beyond for all the other services users at Fen House.

This is such a special achievement for Lisa and Fen House, and is testament to the fantastic work all of our staff do every day around The Disabilities Trust.
