Welcome to The Woodmill

Situated in Cullompton, Devon, The Woodmill is a neurobehavioural brain injury rehabilitation centre for people in the South West of England with acquired brain injury (ABI). Offering a range of flexible brain injury rehabilitation options within its specialist centre and in the local community, The Woodmill forms part of the nationwide network of brain injury rehabilitation support services provided by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT).

About The Woodmill

The Woodmill offers accommodation for up to 19 service users in the main centre, which includes an independent living flat. In addition, there are two community houses and a bungalow nearby which offer transitional or longer term rehabilitation option for a further eight service users.

We specialise in the assessment and rehabilitation of people with an acquired brain injury and complex needs including physical, cognitive, behavioural and/or emotional difficulties, such as social functioning and disinhibited behaviour.It also provides a continuing brain injury rehabilitation service for people with longer term needs. Specialist rehabilitation is based on a neurobehavioural approach and focuses on enabling service users to function more independently, develop their lives as they choose and participate in as many of their previous roles and activities as possible.

Outcomes

In 2017, The Woodmill admitted 5 individuals following an acquired brain injury (ABI).

  • 60% were female.
  • 80% had sustained a traumatic brain injury and 20% had other forms of ABI.
  • The average time since injury was 27 months.

The Woodmill discharged 6 people. The average length of stay was 9 months. On discharge:

  • 50% moved on to supported or independent living.
