Staff from the Brain Injury Rehabilitation (BIRT) service The Woodmill were invited to present to BTEC students at Exeter College studying Health and Social Care who wanted to find out more about the needs of individuals suffering from a brain injury.
Dr Abi Cheeseman, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and 1:1 Enabler Eddie Cattanach went along and provided an overview of acquired brain injury, its effects and information about BIRT. The students also gained a unique insight into experience of brain injury as Eddie presented his personal experience after suffering a brain aneurysm. The students and tutors gave positive feedback on the presentation and The Woodmill will be involved in further teaching programmes at the college.
"It was a fantastic opportunity to raise knowledge and awareness of this highly specialist field and the students (and tutors) seemed very interested and engaged, especially when listening to Eddie’s remarkable story" said Dr Abi Cheeseman.
