On 30th April a group of 8 volunteers from Cisco Systems visited Thomas Edward Mitton House to help improve the centre's rear garden area to make it more pleasant for service users.

They set about the task very enthusiastically, cutting the grass, weeding the flower beds, painting the fence and digging new flower beds. They even very kindly bought plants for our raised flower beds; they also pressure washed the patio area and levelled some paving slabs.

They worked tirelessly and we were most impressed by their hard work and the improvement made to the garden environment. The garden looks even more welcoming and with the recent appearance of the sun we are all looking forward to our family day in June even more.

Cisco volunteer, Damien Hicks said, "We had a blast. The sense of achievement and the opportunity to make a small difference was genuinely heart-warming. It is very easy to lose perspective as we all have busy lives, but the people at the centre have had such a life changing event in their lives. I have absolute admiration for the staff that dedicate themselves to helping with the rehabilitation. We cut the grass, planted some flowers (I hope they survived! ) and did some painting but it was better than any evening out or corporate team building. Getting the team out of the office into a different environment was fantastic. We will definitely be volunteering again!"
