The team at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust's York House Hospital felt that their service users deserved something really special and a touch of luxury this Christmas time.
The York House Christmas party, funded by donations from our Eyes Alight Appeal, was held on Wednesday 14th December at The Monkbar Hotel in York, and was attended by service users and staff. This consisted of a two course meal, disco, and obligatory festive t-shirt/jumper wearing.
It took a lot of work from all staff to organise such a large event, and many of York House's nurses made sure to attend - a testament to the care, dedication and support that our service users receive from our nursing staff.
Rebecca Miller, Unit Secretary from York House, wrote a short poem to mark the occasion:
It was the York House Christmas party, and at the hotel,
The function room and halls were filled with the smell,
Of yummy roast turkey, sprouts and potato
The good will and cheer was starting to flow!
The nurses and staff oversaw the event,
With an emphasis on caring - they knew what it meant,
To care for the service users and put their needs first,
They sated all hunger and quenched every thirst.
After the food came the dancing and singing,
Still in our hats as the music came ringing,
The disco was on and the karaoke was hearty,
Everyone got their groove on – it was the best Christmas party!
