The Disabilities Trust recently opened the #ConnectAbility Hub at our residential centre,Shinewater Court in Eastbourne. The Hub provides the people who live there and disabled people in the local community with free advice and support on assistive communications technology.

Many people have had their lives transformed by assistive technology and are now able to live more independently, maximise their ability to make choices and commuicate with others. To share the benefits and developments in this exciting field we are running a free Expert Seminar for professionals on 20th September 2018 between 09:00 – 13:00 in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. The seminar will gather inspiring and informed speakers from across the country to share innovative new practices and research on assistive technology.

Confirmed speakers so far include:

  • Dr Brian O’Neill – Consultant Clinical Psychologist at The Disabilities Trust's Graham Anderson House (Glasgow) discussing the latest development in technology in health and social care
  • Professor Nigel Harris – Designability Chief Executive discussing the use of robotics in care
  • Stuart Wilkins – Occupational Therapist at The Disabilities Trust's Redford Court (Liverpool) reflecting on his use of technology in practice in people with brain injury
  • Professor Norman Alm – Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Dundee discussing how technology can support communications and social interactions
