Lloyds Banking Group plc have committed to helping 4 services across the UK in partnership with The Disabilities Trust.

It forms part of their colleague volunteering programme which enables colleagues to spend at least one day per year volunteering for a charity or community project of their choice.

Visiting Daniel Yorath House, a Leeds based specialist neurobehavioural rehabilitation centre for people with an acquired brain injury (ABI) at the end of September, the team gave their support by undertaking gardening tasks.

Daniel Yorath House was one of the first assessment and rehabilitation centres for brain injury in the UK and offers a range of flexible rehabilitation options within a modern and comfortable environment. Daniel Yorath House forms part of the nationwide network of rehabilitation support services provided by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT).

Service Manager Rachael Harris said: “The team worked on our main entrance, a seating area in the garden and our raised beds. They spent the day weeding, tidying up the plant pots, painting the fencing and planting new plants. One of our service user’s helped sand down the fencing while another service user oversaw the work. The Lloyds team were able to speak to Garforth Garden Centre who gave a discount on their purchases for which we are very grateful.

We are very appreciative for the time and work that the team did for us at Daniel Yorath House and they have made the areas very tidy and they look great”.

The Lloyds team were equally as thrilled to be able to offer support and had the following to say:

Bridie Doyle – PPI: ‘I had such a fun day, it was nice to brighten up the area and see the service users enjoy it. It was really eye opening to see the job the team does and I’ve a new-found respect for what people go through to support others.’

Phil Stones – Customer Services: ‘It was great to spend the day giving back to the local community at Daniel Yorath House. You can clearly see the great work staff are doing and the benefits it brings to the service users. A very enjoyable day and great to speak to the service users and even better to see them involved in some of the activities!’

Lizzie Cherry – Customer Services: ‘We had a lovely day in Leeds spending the day with the service users at Daniel Yorath House, getting our hands (and even our faces!) dirty, painting fences, and planting some flowers. The sun came out for us and it was great to give some time back to the local community and do something nice to support Daniel Yorath House. Special shout out to Jason who was super helpful & lent us a hand us with the sanding!’
