On Sunday 9th April service user Giles, from physical disability service Ernest Kleinwort Court in Burgess Hill, completed the Brighton Marathon, raising £700 to buy assistive communications technology. Giles, who was supported by Fundraising Officer, Emma Millar and friends, Michaela Sanford, Rebecca Brown and James Peel, finished the marathon in an impressive seven hours, beating last year’s personal best by 2 hours.
‘Team Giles’ took part in the Brighton 10k in 2015 and the Brighton Marathon in 2016; raising money for the #ConnectAbility appeal. The funds will purchase assistive communications technology which is designed to enable disabled people to increase their independence and to communicate with friends and family, and for business and recreation.
Emma Millar said: “What a day. Giles loved every minute of the run and he was our biggest cheerer by far. The team were super strong and the other runners, spectators and, most importantly, the support team were awesome. We smashed last year’s time taking 7 hours! There are big plans for next year so watch this space.”
