Welcome to Kent House
Located in Aylesbury, Kent House is a specialist residential centre providing continuing rehabilitation and specialist care and support for people with acquired brain injury (ABI). It forms part of the nationwide network of rehabilitation support services provided by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT).
Kent House offers accommodation for people from all walks of life who are coping with a range of cognitive, physical and/or emotional symptoms following a severe brain injury. Service users will usually have already experienced a period of intensive rehabilitation before coming to Kent House. Clinical care is based on the neurobehavioural model and focuses on enabling people to function independently and develop their lives as they choose with privacy, dignity and respect.
Our philosophy is that all people with acquired brain injury have the potential to make progress, no matter how severe their injury or how long ago it occurred.

About Kent House
Who we support and how
We offer continuing rehabilitation for people who have already undergone rehabilitation, need specialist care and support in a residential setting, and have longer term support needs to maintain their independence.
Working to the same high standards as other Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) services, and using the neurobehavioural approach, our continuing rehabilitation services focus on maximising independence, while also taking into account the aspirations of the service user and family members. The service user's behaviour and competencies are carefully monitored, and rehabilitation plans are tailored according to changing needs, including age-related conditions.
All service users have an individually tailored treatment programme and are involved in setting their personal goals. The programme includes educational and therapeutic sessions, personal, social and domestic skills, guided leisure time, behavioural management, community access and vocational training and support.
Although we are able to offer a home for life at Kent House, many of our service users do progress and move on to live in a more independent supported environment for ongoing rehabilitation.
Opened in 1994, Kent House offers a modern and superbly equipped setting for rehabilitation. Accommodation comprises 16 single bedsitting rooms with their own bathroom and kitchen, a single-person supported living flat and four bungalows, each with bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. All service users at Kent House are invited to personalise their bedrooms to their own tastes.
Individual accommodation is complemented by spacious and well-appointed communal areas for dining and relaxation. Rehabilitation takes place in a tranquil and supportive environment, with service users enjoying access to a wide range of therapeutic and recreational facilities.
Access to the wider community forms an important part of rehabilitation. Located in the busy county town of Aylesbury, Kent House is ideally situated for social integration, and offers many opportunities for education and vocational placements. Service users enjoy easy access to the town's shops and make extensive use of local leisure facilities, including the nearby Stoke Mandeville sports stadium.
