Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have reported that Kerwin Court, the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) service in Horsham, West Sussex, is Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led; retaining the ratings it received previously.
There were positive comments from service users and their families, as well as staff, with the emphasis on achieving the best possible outcomes for each person. The report noted that the assessment process prior to admission made sure that staff were aware of each individual’s needs, and that support was the least restrictive it could be. Additionally, the design of the building was considered to enhance independence.
Victoria Peaple, Service Manager, said how pleased she was with the report and people’s comments: “When you hear that a service user has said that that they are happy, supported but encouraged to do as much as they can for themselves, or a family member say that they are made very welcome and we have a good understanding of their loved ones’ needs, it makes it all worthwhile. I am very proud of my staff and I think that their enthusiasm shows in many comments but I particularly like one that said that “the service users are lovely people, everyone is an individual with great life stories- we always have a giggle.” I think this sums up Kerwin Court.”
