Welcome to Shinewater Court
Located in Eastbourne, East Sussex, Shinewater Court is a purpose built centre, providing accommodation and support to adults with a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and disabilities resulting from accidents or stroke.
We are committed to ensuring that people have control over their lives and are treated with dignity and respect at all times. We offer a person-centred approach that encourages personal development, confidence and independence.
In addition to the main residential accommodation, there are 13 sheltered flats, which offer a greater level of independence and support for those service users who eventually wish to move to their own home in the community.

About Shinewater Court
Life at Shinewater Court
At Shinewater Court we want to maintain and maximise service users' quality of life, therefore giving people real choice, options and control over their lives. Through the regular service user meetings everybody is actively encouraged to take part in all aspects of support, discussing the individuals' needs and requests.
Our service users are encouraged to live as independently as possible and we are making increasing use of assistive technologies. Equipment ranges from sophisticated automatic environmental controls to simple household appliances that enable independent living skills, confidence building and improve communication and personal care skills.
Service users are encouraged to become involved in a wide range of social, vocational and recreational activities including cooking, arts and crafts, exercise, personal safety, financial management and IT. Service users are also able to take part in a number of therapeutic activities, both on and off site. There is choice to participate in prearranged activities or pursue personal interests, with support from staff.
If a service user wishes to go to college or look at the possibility of going to work, for example, staff will offer support with sourcing the information or enlist the help of others who may be able to assist.
Facilities & Environment
Eastbourne has an attractive sea front with Beachy Head and the South Downs within easy reach. There are many amenities such as local shopping complex, a leisure centre and colleges. Regular trips are arranged into town including outings to shows, concerts and sporting events.
All rooms have an intercom system. Digital television is available in all rooms and also in the communal lounge. There is a main dining room and a bar which is often used for parties and discos.
An exciting ConnectAbility Hub opened in October 2017 at Shinewater Court, where service users and disabled people in the community can try out assistive technology to find out what would help them, and get advice in a safe and friendly environment.
Many of the people we support at The Disabilities Trust have had their lives transformed by assistive technology and are able to live more independently, maximise their ability to make choices and communicate with others.
