Shinewater Court

Located in Eastbourne, East Sussex, Shinewater Court is a purpose-built centre offering accommodation and support to people with a range of disabilities, including acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and disabilities resulting from accidents or stroke.

About Shinewater Court

At Shinewater Court, we offer support, enabling people to join or move through the service as they need. We actively promote the involvement of families and seek to involve the people we support in every decision that affects their lives.

Shinewater Court provides accommodation and support for people with complex and high dependency needs, giving independence and lifestyle choices to adults with brain injuries and neurological conditions.

Facilities 

Shinewater Court has has twenty-three en-suite bedrooms. . A main dining room and bar are often used for parties and discos. There are two fully equipped rehabilitation kitchens to support people to regain their daily living skills, another comfortable communal lounge, and a beautiful outside area where we organise different activities for people to enjoy.

Our rehabilitation models

Our specialist rehabilitation is based on a neurobehavioural approach and focuses on enabling people to function more independently and develop their lives as they choose. The multi-disciplinary team has specialist assessment and therapy rooms to aid a persons recovery.

The programme may include:

  • Educational and therapeutic sessions
  • Support for personal, social, and domestic skills
  • Guided leisure time
  • Behavioural management
  • Community access
  • Vocational support and training

The people we support are actively involved in reviewing their progress against agreed outcomes, and we promote the involvement of families in the rehabilitation process. Home leave is encouraged wherever possible.

Becoming more independent

In addition to the main residential accommodation, there are 13 sheltered flats, which offer greater independence and support for those service users who eventually wish to move to their own homes in the community.

Eastbourne has an attractive seafront with Beachy Head and the South Downs within easy reach. Many amenities exist, such as a local shopping complex, a leisure centre and colleges. Regular trips are arranged by staff into town, including shows, concerts and sporting events. Access to the wider community is an important part of the rehabilitation journey, making this a perfectly situated care centre.

 

Who we support

Our brain injury rehabilitation services are for people who experience some / any of the following symptoms:

  • Cognitive problems including thinking, memory, problem-solving, learning, awareness, and perception
  • Physical impairments that affect mobility, posture, or dexterity
  • Physical and verbal aggression
  • Communication difficulties
  • Challenging behaviour
