Welcome to Ernest Kleinwort Court

Located in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, we are apurpose built centre thatprovides accommodation and support for people withphysical disabilities, promoting independence and lifestyle choices. It forms part of the nationwide network of support services provided byThe Disabilities Trust. Our focus is on maintaining and maximizing a lifestyle as well as providing physical care. We do this by providing real choice, options and giving our service users control over their lives. We believe in enhancing our Service Users independence whilst delivering cost effective outcomes in a person centred environment.

Ernest Kleinwort Court (EKC) supports people with a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and arthritis, multiple sclerosis and disabilities resulting from accidents or a stroke. As well as providing physical care, the service is committed to ensuring that people have control over their lives and are treated with dignity and respect at all times.

Quality Services

The Disabilities Trust has 30 years' experience in tailoring quality support packages for individuals, to enhance their independence and deliver cost-effective outcomes in a person-centred environment.

We recognise that different life experiences need a different provision, and we are continuously adapting and evolving to meet these challenges.

We use assistive technology to promote independence: anything from an adapted kettle through to highly sophisticated, automatic environmental controls and specialist communications aids, which enable people to gain independent living skills and build confidence.

We support and encourage service users to live as independently as possible, without a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. We ensure that any complaints are listened to and responded to within given timescales, and regularly review and monitor our service to ensure effectiveness and quality.

We are committed to providing and encouraging personal development, confidence and independence, and service users are encouraged to take part in a wide range of social, vocational and recreational activities.

As well as providing physical care, our focus is on maintaining and maximising service users' quality of life, therefore giving people real choice, options and control over their lives. Each person is fully involved in all decisions that may affect them.

For those who are actively seeking to move from a residential to a community based setting, support is offered according to individual requirements.

Many service users have moved through our continuum to at-home (domiciliary) care, and our numerous success stories demonstrate that this is possible for anyone, regardless of the severity of their disabilities.

Situated in the Sussex town of Burgess Hill, there are many local amenities close by including a local shopping complex, a leisure centre and post office. Regular trips are arranged to the sports and leisure centre, as well as outings to shows, concerts and sporting events. There is a nearby college with the local community supporting service users in voluntary work placements. Ernest Kleinwort Court is within easy access of road and rail links to London and Brighton. The centre operates three specially adapted vehicles, and service users are also able to use the local taxi services.

We feel that it is important to use local knowledge and expertise, and therefore have close links with primary care teams and foster relationships to share best practice.
