Hannah, a resident at Shinewater Court, was delighted to have been accepted to join the Prince’s Trust team in Eastbourne earlier this year. She had the interview on Monday 25th April and was accepted immediately afterwards, commencing her adventures the following Tuesday. She is the first person in a wheelchair to be on the Eastbourne team, and attended the course every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 12 weeks. Sarndra, Activities Co-ordinator at Shinewater, described her as looking “like the cat that got the cream” when she heard the good news.

Upon completing the course Hannah collected her certificate from the Mayor of Eastbourne at the awards ceremony, and said of her time there:

I really enjoyed doing the Prince’s Trust team program and got a lot out of it. For example, I went to Essex to join in with the residential trip, which I really enjoyed. The best bit was making new friends!

During week two of the 12 week course Hannah, accompanied by Sandra, headed to Essex for the day. The venue was an outdoor activities centre, usually used by a group of boy scouts, and activities included rock climbing, which Sandra did on Hannah’s behalf.

Go-karting was also on the agenda and Hannah rode on her wheelchair while the boys got in their go-karts. Part of Hannah’s 12 weeks was also spent doing work experience, including compering one of the music sessions at Shinewater Court.
