The information on this page is designed to provide essential information about Victoria House to healthcare, social services and other commissioning professionals.

Pre-admission information

At Victoria House our detailed assessment procedure is designed by experts to determine the level of support needed by each individual. We use a combination of methods to accurately assess each individual's needs including collating reports from professionals, meeting with the client and their family and talking to previous service providers.

Assessment

Our assessment model comprises in house assessment using assisted technology and facilitation geared to each individual's ability rather than their disability. Assistive technology assessment aims to establish which equipment and environmental controls will allow an individual to be as independent as possible. By finding out what equipment helps and what does not and adjusting the living environment to suit the individual, accommodation can be modified knowing it will be right first time.

I am enjoying my job very much. Victoria House caters for the needs and wishes of the service users very well and I am proud to be a part of it.

Therapeutic team and environment

At Victoria House our trained and committed staff team ensure that people are at the centre of all we do. Our expertise includes physiotherapy, speech and language and occupational therapy. We seek to provide an environment that encourages personal development, confidence and independence, and service users are encouraged to take part in a wide range of social, vocational and recreational activities.

Team members are selected for their qualifications and experience and they are committed to respecting service users as individuals and supporting them to achieve their individual potential and long-term goals. The team also plays a key role in person-centred planning, being involved in progress meetings and transition planning, reviewing service users' goals to ensure they are achieving their aspirations.

Continuum of support

We offer a continuum of support, enabling people to join or move through the service as needs and desires dictate, from home support to living in a community house or residential setting. Many service users move through our continuum to at-home (domiciliary) care. We have numerous success stories that demonstrate this is possible for anyone, regardless of the severity of their disabilities. We recognise different life experiences need different provision, and are continuously adapting and evolving to meet these challenges.

Assistive technology assessment aims to establish which equipment and environmental controls will allow a service user to be as independent as possible. Identifying the right equipment enables us to tailor the living environment to suit the individual.

Accommodation can be modified knowing it will be right first time. Technology used includes variable kitchen height surfaces, environmental controls such as door entry, curtain operation, TV and music centre controls.

Individually tailored services

Each person is an individual and is at the centre of their support plans, whatever their needs and wishes. We work with a wide range of partners and budget sources. We are experienced in working with personal budgets, be they direct payments or budgets administered by a third party selected by the service user.
