service user and support worker in Ty Aberdafen

The Inspectorate recently visited Tŷ Aberdafen and were very satisfied with the service being provided. They did not identify any areas requiring improvement. Richard Bromley, Service Manager, was particularly pleased that there were no recommendations either. “This really does mean that we are providing a great service which is so encouraging for my team and myself.”

Tŷ Aberdafen is run by the Brain injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) which is part of The Disabilities Trust, and was complimented in each of the four sections under which a service is assessed: Well-being, Care and support, Environment, and Leadership and management.

The centre has a warm and friendly atmosphere with service users saying that they were very happy and “Staff are kind and supportive.” Welsh translations were available as needed.

It was noted that assessments were very thorough and carried out with a multi-disciplinary team. Care needs reflected this, so that people received support that centres on them. All needs were regularly reviewed by a ‘knowledgeable’ staff team.

The environment was praised for being suited to independence and demonstrated that people felt valued. There are clinical treatment and therapy rooms. There is also an IT suite with accessible computers and a well equipped recreational room.

Staff skills and training were praised. Staff in turn were positive about their jobs with quotes such as “The Manager and Assistant Manager are always available for advice and guidance.”

“I love my job and enjoy coming to work.”
