Extensive refurbishment work has begun at Daniel Yorath House in Leeds, which was, when it first opened in 1992 one of the first assessment and rehabilitation centres for brain injury in the UK.
This work will ensure the kitchen and bedrooms are more easily accessible for the people who live there. All doors will be push button operated and have a key fob system to make entry simple for the people who live there.
We are also testing a room where we have installed new technology 'Alexa' to support the use of the electricals appliances, the curtains and the lighting. We are gathering feedback on this test room from everybody we support to ensure we get it right; and so far, the feedback has been really positive.
The refurbishment is scheduled to be completed in April 2022 with space for 19 adults with acquired brain injury.
