About West Heath House

West Heath House is a brain injury rehabilitation centre where people initially come for a 12-week assessment period, where they begin a rehabilitation period to support their recovery. This is then reviewed and may be extended to allow for further rehabilitation to be supported.

Facilities

The main centre comprises eighteen en-suite bedrooms and an internal pathway that supports service users in transitioning to one of the four independent flats. Two fully equipped rehabilitation kitchens support individuals to regain their daily living skills.

The people we support have access to a spacious communal lounge (and a smaller quieter lounge) including a games room and the refurbished physiotherapy room with exercise bikes, treadmill and other exercise equipment. The gardens are designed to provide additional therapeutic value, offering the people we support a lovely outdoor space to enjoy and watch the birds and wildlife and participate in gardening.

Our rehabilitation models

Our specialist rehabilitation is based on a neuro-behavioural approach and focuses on enabling people to function more independently and develop their lives as they choose. The multi-disciplinary team has specialist assessment and therapy rooms to aid individuals recover.

The programme may include:

  • Educational and therapeutic sessions
  • Support for personal, social, and domestic skills
  • Guided leisure time
  • Behavioural management
  •  Community access
  • Vocational support and training

The people we support are actively involved in reviewing their progress against agreed outcomes, and we promote the involvement of families in the rehabilitation process. Home leave is encouraged wherever possible.

Becoming more independent

In addition to the main bedrooms on unit, there are four flats (on unit) which are used for assessing independence of the people we support.

Access to the wider community forms an integral part of the rehabilitation journey. West Heath House’s proximity to shopping, coffee shops, and train stations makes it ideally situated for communal integration. The service also has access to culture, green spaces, and places of worship.
